Show Where Ambitious Women Fail. Only the woman who can do the small things at home, conquer domestic difficulties, and fight shoulder to shoulder shoul-der with her husband in the days of adversity, can hope to do bigger or greater things in the outside world. Some women get the Idea into their heads that they are cut out for some great career for some sort of ideal existence. They are not always sure what sort, but something far removed from the petty affairs of everyday home life. The woman who suffers like this and she doesn't forget to let others suffer at the same timei-may possibly have some talent, but it isn't really anything to talk about if it does not include the power of making her husband happy, her children charming and their home life ideal. But she never thinks of this point of view. She regard? herself as mismat-ed. mismat-ed. as having made a terrible mistake by marrying a man who is not capable of "understanding" her. She thinks that with a man who understood un-derstood her, and helped her along, she could conquer worlds. At present she is hemmed in by husband and children, chil-dren, she is not allowed the opportunities opportuni-ties her soul craves, and so on. She can talk and moan on forever. When you look at this woman's home then you begin to pity those who belong be-long to her. She has but a poor little lit-tle scrap of talent if she cannot rise above the level of the most slovenly peasant and keep her home in apple-pie apple-pie order. Her thoughts cannot be very great and noble if she is content con-tent to let her children run about in a neglected condition. Her soul cannot can-not be very lofty if her sense of duty is so small that she fails to be a helpmate help-mate to her husband and does not make her home attractive. And these are the duties she took upon herself. |
