Show Bishop Wiggers. Return. Newark .May 21. Bishop Wigger, who went abroad last November,- returned re-turned .Thursday aboard the North ! German Lloyd steamship Werra. He i was greeted at Hoboken by fifty priests j of the diocese and may laymen. He was accompanied by the Rev. Father L. C. M. Carroll of St. Patrick's church, Jersey City. Father L. Hofschncider of the church of SS. Peter and Paul, Hoboken, accompanied ac-companied by a delegation of German state societies, delive a brief address, ad-dress, in which he saiu that all German Ger-man Catholics in the diocese greeted i the bishop joyfully. The principal object of the b:shop's trip abroad was to make a report to the Pope, which is required of bishops at least every ten years. H had an audience au-dience with the Pope on Dec. 13, after which he proceeded to the Holy Land, where he spent eleven weeks. He celebrated cele-brated High Mass in Christ church, Bthlehem, on Jan. 7. He then visited Egypt and Algiers. He was in good health while they were in the Holw Land, where beards are popular and. as Father Carroll said, shaving is "hardly obtainable." |
