Show At a luncheon given by the governor of Newfoundland ' to Signor Marconi, the. inventor said: "If my system of wireless telegraphy can be commercially commercial-ly established between different parts of the earth of the possibility of which I may state I have not . the slightest doubt it would bring about an enormous Cheapening of the methods meth-ods of communication." Then, referring to the current rate of 25 cents per word for cabling to England, he added: "I do not see why, eventually, with the wireless-system, this cost should not be reduced to 1 cent a word, or less." It may he the fear of some such reduction reduc-tion that caused the Anglo-American Cable companyto notify Marconi to cease -trespassing on what that company com-pany alleges are Us exclusive rights and to abandon his wireless telegraph tests between Newfoundland and England. Unless that corporation had been panic-stricken- it surely would not have been guilty of so foolish a performance as to attempt to put its veto on the continuance of experiments which are so interesting and so promising of great results.
