Show POCATELLO. After a number of hitches and delays, de-lays, the contract has been let ir the most important part of the construction construc-tion of the new Oregon Short Line shops at Pocatello. The successful bidders are Grace & Hyde of Chicago. The figures are not made public. The entire shops will cost SGrJ,000. ' The contract let to the Chi- cago firm includes the car shop, ma-! ma-! chine phop and round house. The contract con-tract for tho tin shop, steam fitting shop and blacksmith shop will be let shortly. These three; last named cut a i comparatively small figure in the ex-f ex-f pense o , the whole... '' The contractors will begin work as : soon as '"pbssible. and push toward a completion within the year 1902. It is expected, that a large force of men will be ..employed on the construction on or soon after the first of the year, i The new shops will be equipped in tho best possible manner. While they will not be as complete as some other shops, it is the intention to equip them with as modern and as high-class machinery ma-chinery as is made. Electrical power will be used, and as formerly described, the machinery will give every facility for handling the repair and construction construc-tion work which is to be done there. The plans have been worked out under un-der the direction of Resident Engineer En-gineer William Ashton and ' Superintendent Superin-tendent of Motive Power J. F. Dunn. They will have charge for the railroad company of the construction work, the whole being under the supervision of General Manager W. H. Bancroft and General Superintendent E. E. Calvin. |
