Show CARDINAL VAUGHAN, DUKE OF NORFOLK AND THE IRISH CATHOLICS. Editor Intermountain and Colorado Catholic: Dear Sir A few weeks ago you were pleased to announce to your Catholic readers that the great and noble Duke of Norfolk Catholic Earl Marshal of England, had volunteered to go to South Africa to fight the brave Boers. Evidently the Duke is still in-VLondon. It will be now in order to announce that Cardinal Vaughan has issued a pastoral justifying the war, asserting' that the interests of the empire demands that it be pushed to a triumphant issue. All this would be very edifying and interesting inter-esting to your Irish Catholic readers, since they understand the Duke and Cardinal's attitude on the present war to be strongly in keeping with their devotions to the accursed Union Jack, and their marked opposition to Ireland's Ire-land's struggle for home rule. 'Tis a pity they are not both on the firing line, that some Boer or Irish Catholic would have an opportunity of pumping Boer lead into them. "God's curse upon the Saxon," and "God's blpissing on the Boers," should be the daily prayer of the Irish Catholic race. THOMAS J. QUINN. Ouray, Colo., Jan. 26, 1900. |
