Murphy of St. Louis sang for the offertory of-fertory a Salve Regina by Eyres. Mr. Murphy has a grand voice, and makes church singing the great jileasure of his life. He will sing on Christmas, also. Mrs. L. V. Brockbank will assist thg St. Mary's choir with the Christmas service. Mrs. Brockbank is a sister of Mrs. J. Hal Moore, the leading soprano. She has a lovely alto voice. The members mem-bers of the choir admire the charming spirit that prompts her a non-Catholic to aid them, when some Catholics refuse. re-fuse. Very Rev. M. Neeland, Dean of Bal-larat. Bal-larat. Australia, was in the city on Monday. He was the guest of Rt. Rev. Bishop Scanlan while hero. He is returning re-turning to his home after a long tour in Europe. He has been in Australia thirty-eight years. While away he visited vis-ited the Holy Land and had many in-tcivsting in-tcivsting experiences. Heard over the telephone: "Is this 181?" "It is." "Is Mr. Lync'i there?" "Yes: Mr. Lynch is talking." "Is there any show for me to get on the ice-pond?" Then the telephone girl cut off the connections. Who wouldn't like to be the ice-man in the winter time? Professor George Matthews of the Utah University died on Sunday even-ing even-ing at Redlands, Cal. Professor Matthews had gone to California for his health. He had been at the University Uni-versity since 1S90, where he was instructor in-structor in modern languages. His death is deeply deplored by all who knew- him. . Rev. Father Manuiou. who has been visiting here- for a few days, left for his J parish on Saturday. He celebrated v Mass in Terrace on Sunday, on his j way to Eureka. Nevada. Father Man- 1 niou has been located at Eureka three I years. He makes two trips here a J , year in the spring and fall. Eureka J is 4:.o miles from Salt Lake. He visits I li turn Elko, White Pine., New, and I Box Elder county, Utp.K The distanre I ' ' traveled by the Rev. Father covers 200 by 400 miles. Rev. Father Manniou has many friends here and in Park City, who are always glad to welcome him during his brief visits. - The Walker House property on Main street, between Second and Third South, on last Wednesday became the property of Hon. David Keith, the Park City mining magnate. Last fall Mr. Keith purchased a half interest in this property, but this week the- remaining re-maining half was transferred to him by M. II. Walker for $79,200. The total cost of the property to Mr. Keith waa $150,000. On last Friday afternoon Mary, the beloved wife of Mr. J. H. McCallum, died at St. Mary's Hospital. She was buried on Sunday afternoon- from St. Mary's Cathedral. Rt. Rev. Bishop Scanlan officiated and preached a most eioquent sermon, in which he paid a well deserved tribute to the deceased. Mrs. McCallum was a woman of beautiful beau-tiful character, which showed nobly in her last illness. With unfaltering trust in God's great mercy she faced death; with unfaltering- tenderness for those behind she took leave of life; with-'simple resignation she bowed to the Divine decree. To her husband and four brown-eyed brown-eyed little ones all love and sympathy goes out. May God in His infinite mercy mer-cy comfort them in this hour of trouble trou-ble and bear them safely through what remains of the troubles and sorrows of this world to their everlasting home where there will be no more death, crying cry-ing or pain. |
