Sisters of Good Shepherd. Sunday afternoon. Phillips of the catholral left last week for Vancouver, P.. ;., to see his mother, who is reported dying. The ceremony will lake place m the Church of the Sacred Heart. Miss Corbett has a beautiful contralto voice, which has been heard at various times in a number of church heirs in the city. Mr. Peers is a tenor Koloist of no mean ability. He has recently re-cently been received into the Catholic church. On Wednesday afternoon Miss Mabei Cre.au entertained informally at tea in honor of Miss Clara D'Arcy, who is soon to be married. Rishop W. C. Matz and Rev. Wil- Ham O'Ryan are on the committee to receive the famous orators whom "The Friends of Rusian Freedom" will bring to Denver In Mai'. Miss May Gillis has been confined to her home for a month suffering from a nervous breakdown. Rev. A. Valentine, S. J.. of the Church of the Holy Trinity. Trinidad, Colo., came up to Denver Wednesday evening 1$ staying at the Sacred Heart parochial ' residence, Larimer and Twenty-eighth streetes. Will Keliy, after a three weeks' visit with his family in Denver, has returned re-turned to Goldfleld, Nev., to look after his mining interests. Mrs, Kelly will remain in Denver a. few weeks longer. Miss Maude McGinnis is at St Joseph's Jo-seph's hospital suffering with a crushed foot, which may cause her to be a cripple for life. The Injury was received re-ceived In the elevator at her place of business in West Denver. A very delightful social event of the season was the reception tendered by Mrs. Joseph A. Osner, president of the Sacred Heart Ladies' Aid society, to the members and their husbands on Thursday evening, April r.r. Mrs. Osner has introduced a new and deliphtful feature in Catholic club life in Denver. v .V The ball which was set for Friday evening, April 10. had to be postponed on account of the terrible snowstorm, but on Wednesday evening, April 24, Granada hall at Welton and Eighteenth streets, was filled and no lack of enthusiasm en-thusiasm was shown because of the change of date. Quirk's orchestra furnished fur-nished the music for dancing, and for those who preferred less strenuous amusement card tables were set in I the spacious balcony. This was one of a series of entertainments given by the building association to raise funds for t lie erection of a Catholic church in Montclair. Rev. J. M. Walsh is pastor, pas-tor, but has to say mass every Sunday in the town hall, so is bending every energy to accumulate sufficient money to warrant him in commencing work on the new church. John C. Murphy, W. T. Michel and Leonard A. Kerns composed the committee com-mittee having the ball in charge, and its success is lue to their indefatigable efforts. |
