Show CALDER'S MUSIC PALACE. The oldest established music house west of Chicago certainly deserves distinguished notice among the representative repre-sentative concerns of Salt Lake City. To Calder's Music Palace belongs this honor. Founded by D. O. Calder In 1860, this pioneer house was the first to bring to the people of Utah a complete supply sup-ply of musical merchandise, and place within the reach of the dwellers in the wilderness the finest instruments and choicest melodies produced in the art centers of civilization. At that early period Salt Lake City had not been linked to the east by a railroad; hence all goods had to be hauled by ox-tams from Council Bluffs to this point. Since then this firm has grown with the growth of the city, and state and has advanced with the progress of the times, so that its name has . become a household word in Utah and a wide extent of territory terri-tory surrounding the state. The firm originally occupied premises prem-ises at No. 72 Main street, and in 1883 moved into , their own building, which they now occupy, located at 45 and 47 West, First South street, Salt Lake Citv . Calder's Music Palace has a measurement measure-ment 'of 30x90 feet and contains three floors and a basement. The entire building is filled with an immense and varied stock of musical instruments of all the standard makers, musical publications pub-lications and supplies o? every conceivable con-ceivable description. This house is sole representative for the world renowned pianos of Steinway & Sons, Steck, Mason & Hamlin, Behi Ero., Kimball, Vose & Sons, and other leading makers, mak-ers, and also for the organs of Mason & Hamlin and W. W. Kimball. Band instruments, guitars, violins and .the strings and other fittings necessary for them, can be found here of superior super-ior quality in infinite variety. The house is also agent for the Gramophone, Gramo-phone, the most satisfactory and durable dur-able talking machine on the market. A repair shop equipped to execute any sort of work that may be required upon every, kind of musical instrument instru-ment forms part of the establishment, and is kept busy with work sent in by dealers from a wide territory around Salt Lake City, -for it is in fact the only complete workshop of its class operated in this section of the country. A conservatory of music, directed by competent instructors, forms a useful and popular, feature of this admirable home of melody. During its long and successful business 'career, Calders Music Palace has built up a splendid patronage extending chiefly through Utah, Idaho, Nevada, western Wyoming Wyom-ing and Colorado, while orders are received re-ceived frequently from as far north as Montana and as far south as Mexico.
