McCornick will leave on Sunday for a trip abroad. Mrs. J. H. Kirk and daughter, Miss Stella, left last Tuesday for Chicago. Miss Kinsella and Miss Sinclair will assist the choir at St. Mary's next Sun-da Sun-da y. ? Miss Lidjf Corey of Ogden was the guest of Miss Florence Teehan last week. Mr. and airs. M. E. Mulvey have been on a two week's visit to Glenwood Springs. Mr. Thomas O'Donnell of the Rio Grande office entertained at a "smoker" last week. Dennis Sullivan of Eureka was a city visitor on Tuesday. He was returning from Butte. J. C. Sullivan, the manager of the Raymond mine at Eureka, was a city visitor the past week. Mis. William Gray returned to her home in St. Anthony. Ida., last week after a delightful visit with her mother Mrs. Sinclair. Miss Lucile Morrison was tendered a very delightful surprise party last Friday Fri-day evening by a large number of school friends. The inusieale given by Mrs. Kate P.ridewe Anderson last Sunday at the llifl church was an artistic success as is usual with her work. A pretty Juno wedding was that of Miss Bertha Gillett and Mr. Herbert Monteer, which occurred on Tuesday evening at the home of the bride. The closing exercises of All Hallows Mill take place Monday evening in the S;ilt Lake theater, and not in the New Grand opera house, as indicated in the invitations. The many friends of Miss Jennie Hawley are very pleased to know of the success she is having in New York. She has lately signed with Peter Daly for next season. Thursday was the feast of Corpus Christ!. This was formerly a holy day of obligation, but is now only a day of special devotion. Mass was celebrated cele-brated at 7:30 at St. Mary's. Mrs. Thilip Finegan and daughters have gone east. They expect to remain re-main away for a year. Mrs. Finegan will be greatly missed by the members mem-bers of the Sewing society. 4 Miss Lottie Levy returned from New York Wednesday evening. Miss Levy bad signed with the De Koven company com-pany for the coming season but was "homesick" for her old home. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Tarbet left for Washington last Saturday. They will attend the graduating exercises of the Visitation Convent, where Miss Helen Lavc-11, their niece, will graduate. The invitations to the commencement j exerc ises of St. Mary's academy were issued during the past week. They are ! beautifully ensrmved in silver in honor of the silver jubilee of St, Mary'-s. Rev. Father Mannion of .Eureka, New, is in the city for the past week. Father, reports everything flourishing in his part of the country. He visits many missions in southern Nevada, Father Keenan left for Mercur " on Thursday morning, and directs a con- j cert, which was given for the benefit! of the church on Friday evening, tlrs. J. Hal Moore, Misses Marie and ' Grace Davi were the Salt Lake artists, j who contributed to the success of the affair. Father Keenan is to be con-J con-J gratulated on the splendid strides his church is making at Mercur. Rev. Father Bulfamante arrived in the city on Tuesday. He is a native of Italy and will take charge of the church in Castle Gate, where the members mem-bers of the congregation are nearly all Italians. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Keenan of Kemmerer came to the city last Tuesday. Tues-day. Mrs. Keenan expects to remain here during the summer. Mr. Keenan returned to Kemmerer Wednesday evening. $ W. L. Beckett, for many years in charge of the soda fountain of a leading lead-ing Philadelphia drug store, arrived in Salt Lake last week and will occupy a similar position at the Smith Drug company. The commencement exercises of the University of Utah will be held in the ' Salt Lake theater on "Wednesday, June 20. On Thursday, Jui 21, the students stu-dents will hold their field day exercises exer-cises at Saltalr. ' The annual entertainment given by the children's choir of St. Mary's will be given on June 23. As usual the programme is an excellent one, and the young performers are taking great interest in its success. On last Monday the children from St. Ann's Orphanage spent a pleasant day at Saltair. They went out at 10:30 in the morning in charge of the Sisters. Rev. Fathers Keenan and Mannion accompanied ac-companied the little folks, and made the day one long to be remembered. Mrs. W. H. Bintz, accompanied by Miss June and Harry, left for Laramie on Tuesday and will spend the next six weeks visiting her parents. Harry Bintz was one of the bright eighth grade graduates from the Oquirrh this year. By special request Mrs. J. Hal Moore and Miss Margaret Harley repeated the "O Salutaris," by Campana, at St. Mary's last Sunday. It was beautifully rendered, and was very much appreciated appreci-ated by the gentlemen who requested its repetition. Mrs. W. H. O'Neill of Butte City, who was formerly Miss Daisy Blackburn, a pupil of St. Mary's Academy, is in the city visiting her mother. Mrs. O'Neil is accompanied by her little son, and she will remain here to attend the commencement com-mencement exercises at St. Mary's. Invitations to the Twenty-second annual an-nual commencement of the Sacred Heart Academy at Ogden have been received. re-ceived. The exercises will take place on the 21st. The graduates are Misses Ella M. Hogan, Norine L. Scudder-Rose Scudder-Rose E. Vickery, Lillian Langsdorf' Elizabeth F. Farmer and Virginia N. Cassin. se On last Sunday evening at the Congregational Con-gregational church Miss Thelma Win-field, Win-field, the talented young violinist, assisted as-sisted by Professor Radcliffe, gave a very entertaining recital. Her violin is a wonderful old Cremona instrument valued at $1,200, whose origin can be traced to 1691. She has a splendid technique and plays with much expression. expres-sion. The closing exercises of St. Mary's Academy will take place on next Tuesday Tues-day and Wednesday. On Tuesday afternoon af-ternoon the programme will begin at 2:30. On Wednesday morning the graduating grad-uating exercises will take place at 10 o'clock. The young ladies who will complete the course this year are: Miss Myra Wood, Miss Margaret Robertson, Miss Adeline Du Chene and Miss Anna O'Brien. St. Mary's Academy will this year celebrate its silver jubilee. The members mem-bers of the Alumnae association will take an active part in the celebration. Many of them will come from adjoining states and will be entertained by former for-mer classmates and by the Sisters of St. Mary's. A very handsome osten-sorium osten-sorium will be presented to the Academy Acad-emy for the chapel, by the association It is a very beautiful piece of workmanship workman-ship made by Feeley & Co., of Chicago on a special order. Rev. Father Morrissey arrived last Friday from De Lamar. New, and will remain in the city a few weeks. Hosts of friends are delighted to welcome him again if only for a short time. Father Morrissey was formerly the director of the 9 o'clock choir, and the children are joyfully happy over his visit. They held an informal reception in his honor last Saturday afternoon. Father Morrissey reports that De Lamar is rising Phonex like from the ashes, after the fire that swept over the town. The members of the Catholic Social and Literary society, together with their friends, will have an outing at Hill's farm on next Sunday. The oars will leave the corner of State and First South streets at 12 and 1 o'clock, and connections will be Vnade with the busses at Calder's park. Lunch will be served on the grounds bya committee of ladies including Miss Kane, Miss Cronin. and Miss Tehan. Mr. O'Donnell. O'Don-nell. Mr. Marnane and Mr. Monter will attend to the transportation. Music will be furnished by - a special orchestra. It is expected that all the members will attend, as an enjoyable time is promised. A wedding in which many Salt Lakers were interested took place last Tuesday at North Platte, Neb., when Miss Magdalena Schatz and Mr. William Wil-liam M. Jeffers were married. The young couple left immediately after the ceremony on their wedding tour, and will be in Salt Lake in a few days, where they will visit Mr. and Mrs. Fischer, aunt and uncle of the bride. Mrs. Jeffers is a former graduate of St. Mary's Academy, a member of the Alumnae association, and will remain here to attend the closing exercises of her alma mater. Much happiness is wished for the young couple by many friends and former classmates. |
