Show The Catholic Church. In the whole universal record there is no inistitution so mighty, so exalted, so durable as the Chu.yh of Rome. Issuing Issu-ing nearly two thousand years ago, from a remote eastern town, and entering enter-ing a state of society divided by language, lan-guage, race and custom, in three short centuries, despite the most sanguinary persecution that ever raged, without sword or military implement, the Cath- ! olic Church ascended the throne cf the world and commenced the most glorious glori-ous reign in human history. For a thousand years th-v Catholic Church with giant like vigor swayed the destinies desti-nies of mankind, , founding nations, building empires, moulding peoples, diffusing civilization and reconstituting reconstitut-ing the whole force of human'tiy. linden- the shadow of t jis mighty dynastv sprang up a race ?f intellects before whose searching eyes the whole form of Christian truth stood revealed and who built up the-must splendid system nf philosophy eveij presented to the world. From the ruins created by the tremendous emptiest of the sixteenth century the Catholic Church arose in new splendor, her rown of temporal sovereignity replaces by a truly spiritual spirit-ual one, her. dominion exteneied, her subjects multiplied.
