Drop into the house ' of any Catholic near yeu. and you wid .probably find at least one daily paper j ami several story papers. It is a cai- umny to assert that Catholics do not read. It is true that they do not read Catholic literature, but. then, they havio no taste for it. There is not enough "spice" and "red-hot" sensation in Catholic- books and paners. They get sufficient religion from a hastily heard mass on. Sunday to uo them th3 j rest of the week. They even avoid hijh iriiisf. because of the sermon. Scraps of half-remembered Catechism s-jflhe them. Secular education t;:kes no account ac-count of religion. Hundreds of yeiunv Catholics learn, in the public schools, to forget their religion on week days. They take it up for half an hour on Sunday. Then, perhaps, they read in their prayer books.
