Show Church Notes. Rev. Father Pantanelli, S. J.. of Sacred Sa-cred Heart college, is rapidly recovering recov-ering his health at St. Joseph's hospital. hos-pital. Father Henry McCabe, pastor of the church at Idaho Springs, was a visitor in Denver this week. ;jj . Rev. P. A. Phillips, chancellor of the diocese of Denver, and pastor of the pro-cathedral, is at St. Anthony's hospital. hos-pital. Father Phillips has been in poor health for some time, and if he is sufficiently suf-ficiently recovered he will undertake a long journey after Easter in order to entirely recuperate. Father Phillips Is. perhaps, the best liked priest in the entire diocese, and is one of the pioneers. pio-neers. Unostentatiously he ha.s worked in the dual capacity of secretary to the bishop and a pastor of the cathedral for years, and the severe strain has told on him. He has always been ready to do the little irksome things which no one clamors to wrest from him, and he does them patiently and quietly. The good which Father Phillips Phil-lips does by stealth will perhaps never be known, and many a hungry heart is even now praying that he may be spared to continue his mission. Father Belzer of the cathedral is still confined to his room at St. Joseph's hospital. He will, however, soon be able to resume his work. Holy Thursday will be first communion com-munion day at St. Mary's academy. At Logan avenue chapel the children will receive for the first time on Sunday. May 31. This year the children of the! parochial school and those attending secular institutions, although prepared separately because of the difference in their training, will be permitted to form one class for the actual reception of holy communion. On Tuesday morning, April 7, a no-vena no-vena to St. Anthony was commenced at St. Elizabeth's church in West Denver. Den-ver. For nine successive weeks there will be high mass every Tuesday morning and benediction and sermon in the evening. The attendance at the St. Anthony devotions is drawn from all the parishes in the city. The children of St. Elizabeth's parochial paro-chial school had a high requiem mass celebrated on Friday, April 10, in St. Elizabeth's church for the repose of the soul of their beloved pastor. Rev. Father Leo, and on Saturday morning another mass was read as the offering offer-ing of the parishioners. St. Clara's Orphans Aid society met on Monday afternoon, April 6, at the orphanage and discussed plans for a picnic early in the summer. No large public benefit has ever been given for St. Clara's, but this year the erection of their new building will put the sisters sis-ters to much additional expense, and hence make necessary the employment of new methods of raising money, tt The Sacred Heart Ladies' Aid society so-ciety held an enthusiastic meeting Thursday afternoon, April 9, at the home of Mrs. Charles H. Wilkin, 1215 Corona street. Much business was transacted. |
