Show i ALL HALLOWS COLLEGE. Musical Department. All Hallows? college has been always remarkable for its musical organizsi-iions. organizsi-iions. Vocal and instrumental music receive close attention. The band and college orchestra are organizations of which anybody should be proud. For the prominence which the institution holds in this line much credit is due to Professor Anton Pe-derson, Pe-derson, who has be-n for many years musical instructor at the college. Scientific Course. The science course taught at All Hallows Hal-lows college has been outlined in accordance ac-cordance with the report of the committee commit-tee . on secondary schools. It aims ito impart to the students a ; thorough thor-ough knowledge of Eng'.ish, and a'read- j ing knowledge of French, German. .or j Spanish. . I Special stress is laid on mathematics and to familiarize students with spontaneous spon-taneous and .independent, thinking nu-I nu-I merous .original exercise's and practical problems are given. Both freehand land mechanical drawing are taught by j a competent mechanical engineer. I From the first year the Marist Fath-1 Fath-1 ers have had charge of All Hallows they have recognized the gresit opportunities, oppor-tunities, that the intermountain region offers to young men. with a scientific training. Hence it has been their constant con-stant aim to equip laboratories with the best that can be found on the market. Thus-in the physical laboratory may be seen the necessarmeasuring instruments, in-struments, such as .micrometers, calipers, cali-pers, spherometers. etc., Fortin's barometer, pneumatic ..pumps, suction and force pumps, hydrostsitic "presses, improved Jolly's balances, photometers, ypectroscopes, a heilostsit, etc. An induction in-duction motor, a direct current and an alternating current dynamo, storage batteries, ' galvanometeres, voltmeters and ammeters, etc., transformers, Rumkorf coils etc. The chemical laboratories are equipped with the most commodious tsibles. All necessary implements, such as balances, furnace, burettes, crushers, crush-ers, mortal's, etc., haye been installed. In connection with the assaying department de-partment the college possesses the nucleus- of a fine mineral and; geological collection, " College Museum. Not the least, interesting part of the college is the museum, which contains, besides the minerals,: good collections of shells, . historical ;tins and medals,' ancient arm 9,: stamps., etc. ' Classical Course. The classical course is intended for those students Who desire to enter the world with a thorough knowledge of their mother tongue,. To this purpose then every care and attention is shown in fhef imparting of English and Latin, together with Greek and some modern language. French, German and Spanish Span-ish are taught by professors who have made these languages their own. Commercial Course. The commercial department Is well equipped with all the requisites of the commercial room. Office stools and desks of "the - latest, styles for convenience con-venience and' utility are at the student's stu-dent's disposition. Typewriters and shorthand . form a- feature of this' branch and accompany all the ordinary daily work. Great attention is paid to English and arithmetic, and students who are a little backward enjoy the privilege of special teaching. Cadet Corps Three Companies. . The college . boasts of -a cadet corps who, for soldierly bearing and drill proficiency, pro-ficiency, hold a place second to none in the state. . A complete course of gymnastics is given to those who so desire,1 and the large and well fitted gymnasium hajs lately received substantial additions of calisthenic appurtenances. Christian Doctrine. The religious training of the students is by no means neglected. No interference inter-ference is. allowed with one's religious convictions. Christian doctrine is taught daily and special courses are given on Sundays. Religion is still furthered for the Catholic students' by the formation of sodalities, such as that of the Blessed Virgin and the Holy Angels. - |
