Show FATHER CRONIN'S DEATH. Father Cronin, editor o the Buffalo Catholic. Fnion and Times, died last week. His death was ! more than an ordinary loss to the Catholic press. , As a Catholic journalist he had few equals. By ! his depth of thought, and fluency in writing he 1 commanded the respect and good will of all who read his brilliant and spicy editorials in the Union and Times. His eyes were always open when the church was unjustly attacked, and with his profound pro-found and extensive knowledge he ably and lucidly lu-cidly defended her interests. His broad and comprehensive com-prehensive mind never failed to 'ee the point of an object iou and all its bearings, which he would answer an-swer in a simple yet dignified manner, and with logical precision. He never descended to the depths of an abusive or quarrelsome attitude, but when wit and sarcasm were needed he could wield the pen to the highest point with his latent native wit. His knowledge and work were not confined to a religious re-ligious sphere. His mission was to purify society and alleviate the sufferings of humanity by exposing expos-ing graft, inculcating civic virtues and aiding the poor and helpless. His was a noble mission, and the Catholic press has lost its best and ablest representative. rep-resentative. To his friends who are a legion and scattered throughout every state in the Union, and in England and Ireland, the Iutermountain Catholic Catho-lic extends feelings of deep condolence. I . |
