Show ELKS WILl'tAKE ORPHANS. Mrs. A. H. Tarbet Placed at Head of the Auxiliary. The wives, daughters and women friends of the Elks are interested to a material degree in the preparations being made to give the orphans of the city an cuting Thursday, Aug. 4. At a meeting of the committee last Thursday which had the matter in charge it was decided to take the little lit-tle boys and girls to Lagoon. Free transportation has been promised by Senator Simon Bamberger, and J. Ber-german. Ber-german. lessees of the resort, has agreed to turn it over to the little on:. It was decided that the orphans will be taken to the Lagoon on a. special train leaving the Salt Lake depot at 9:30 o'clock, and leaving Lagoon in time to reach Salt Lake City at 7:30 o'clock in the evening. The committee of Eiks which has charge of the arrangements for the outing, which will be the regular annual an-nual "Purple day" for the members of the lodge, met Thursday afternoon m the parlors of the club house on State street and decided, for the occasion, to appoint a woman's auxiliary. That organization is to have absolute charge i of the female arrangements, and w;Il j in no way conflict with the plans to be ! taken by the men. Mrs. A. H. Tarbet was made temporary tempo-rary chairman of the auxiliary committee. com-mittee. To her has been delegated the duty of collecting clothes and other wearing apparel for. the children .M ho would not' otherwise be able to accept the Elks' invitation and dresi? as they would like. Mrs. Tarbet will be asisled by a corps of philanthropic women who will see to if. that the children are clothed as they should be. Miss Nora Gleason was made chairman chair-man of a committee to visit the various , charitable institutions in the city and ascertain just how many boys and girls will be able to go on the excursion to Laeoon. Assisting her will be Mrs. Albert Herz and Mrs. J. H. Moore. They u-il work in conjunction with Exalted Ruler Parley P. Christens?n, in whose hands the whole excursion has been placed. The several committees commit-tees appointed will report to him as they make progress, that he may be better able to perfect the plant? arranged ar-ranged for by the Elks. |
