Show ALL HALLOWS COLLEGE. Celebration of Ireland's Patron Saint Drew an Immense House. Monday evening the large hall of All Hallows college was filled and some were unable to And admission except through the entrance back of the stage. The occasion was the annual entertainment in honor of Ireland's saint. St. Patrick's night always finds All Hallows crowded with friends of the students. The - following excellent programme was rendered: Fantasie of Irish melodies, melo-dies, orchestra; recitation. "Where the Shamrock Grows," Neil Bonner and Henry Ivers; dance (hornpipe), Edward McMonigle; 'oration of the day. Robert A. Canning; violin solo, (a) Schubert's "Serenade," (b) "Zingaresca." Arthur Pedersen: recitation. "At Fredericksburg," Fredericks-burg," Thomas Brogan; (a) Andante and waltz. "Fairy." (b) grand march, "The Patriot." college hand of forty piece: closing .remarks by Father Gueymard; grand finale, "Old Ireland," by the band. The principal features of the evening, were the violin playing by young Pedersen, Pe-dersen, son of Professor Anton Pedersen; Peder-sen; the eloquent orations by Robert A. Canning and Father Gueymard, and a humorous speech from the Earl of Fin-gall. Fin-gall. The recitation of a poem, "At Fredericksburg," by Thomas Brogan,: elicited well merited applause. The decorations of the assembly room where the exercises . were held were elaborate, including large pictures of Lincoln and Washington draped with American flags. Several lively Irish airs were played by the band as the audience filed out, and numbers of the latter executed impromptu jigs as they moved towards the street. |
