Tlie iiiiaiiiinous vote of the society was cast by the secretary to make Mrs. Mi- chad McGovern treasurer. Her busi- 1 ness ability and tact in managing tilings has made her a most desirable incumbent of this office in former years. 1 Her repeated election is a manifosta- ' tion of the high regard In which she is held by the members in general. She 3 succeeds Mrs. J. E. O'Brien, who is now '. In California. 1 on Sunday morning Rev. Michael "VV. ; Donovan, the spiritual director of the : society, made a ringing appeal from the. 1 sanctuary of. the Lgan avenue chapel ; that men and women throughout the parish join in the noble work of caring 1 fur the altar.-' Much assistance is re- quired to keep the altars prettily deco- rated and to keep the sanctuary and j sacristies in repair. "While the men are , .not asked to. do anyof the active work, . they are expected to enroll as members iui contribute the monthly stipend. 4 Mrs. Laura Paul will "continue to su pervise the work, of caring for the altar. al-tar. Mrs. Paul declined nomination to office most emphatically, but has t promised. to continue as she always has, to do all the work in connection with , . decorating the church. From the sale of candles for the Feast of the Purification, the society raised JTfi. the greatest amount ever realized In this manner. , The Queen's Daughters Entertain. 1 Much interest -centers about the card parly which will be given by the Queen's Daughters next Tuesday evening even-ing at the Woman's club building. The young women themselves are working energetically to et things in readiness, and the sale of tickets to date guarantees guaran-tees a large attendance. The club building build-ing will be attractively decorated in red hearts, appropriate to the occasion, St. Valentine's day. Handsome prizes, ihe handiwork of the members, will be offered in each section, and in addition there will lie general prizes for which every guest will cut. Ball For Sacred Heart Aid Society. Hetween now and Ash Wednesday, all the Catholic young people will endeavor to crowd in as much pleasure as possible possi-ble for nothing of .social . Interest will take place during the forty days preceding pre-ceding Easter, and after that it will be too late to launch any entertainments . of any proportions. The dance to be . given by the Sacred Heart Aid society in Marble hall on' March 6 will be a brilliant affair and will- be largely at- ! tended. , Miss Joanna Brosnan entertained the Aandern club on "Wednesday afternoon In a delightful manner. The lecture .n "Moorish Decoration" by Miss Miles was very entertaining and Instructive. Thu.-sday the mid-term holliday for :he students of the college of the Sacred Hart was a pleasurable occasion. The mys indulged in sports all day, -on ac-.unt ac-.unt of the pleasant weather, and -.hose who did not remain at the college 'pent the day in Denver as guests of .he day scholars. Colo., I .0 pay a visit to her parents, Mr. and iMrs. Joseph Petiulerc. she will be gone two weeks. . Husband and Wife Die in One Week. Scarcely a week after she had fol-. fol-. owed the remains of her husband, Mrs. J'homaS; Tracy was born to the same place and laid in the new made grave !.ide that of her life companion. On j Wednesday morning friends to the number of several hundred gathered at the Church of -St. Patrick in North Denver and paid their last tribute of I , love and respect t0 Mrs. Tracy. Rev. , , Joseph P. Carrigan, a friend of the family, conducted the funeral services , ,iind delivered the eulogy. ; One week previously from the same hurch Thomas Tracy had been buried The same friends followed his body to the cemetery while yet Mrs. Tracy seemed to be enjoying the best of health. The following day she was taken ill with pneumonia, from which . disease Mr. Tracy had died, and she j . lingered just a .week. Both Mr. and Mrs. Tracy were born in Tipperary. They however did not meet until both ame to Ottawa, 111., about fortv-five I years ago and there they married. They have been in Denver twelve years. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy were exemplary ex-emplary Catholic people and their d.-ath is mourned by many friends, i They are survived by their sons and daughter who are, John Tracy, Dan Tracy, Miss Sara Tracy. Miss Marv Tracy. Mrs. P. W. Lawler. and Mrs. Dan Eagan. May their souls rest in peace. Elaborate Ceremonies at Christening With the full baptismal rites of the Catholic church the little child of Mr. and Jerry T. Smart was christened last , Sunday at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The entire Italian I -solony of North Denver attended the II .ceremonies which lasted throughout the aficrnuon. in the evening the friends -'(" of Mr. and Mrs. Smart gathered for a social time to celebrate the event. Rev. Father Piccoli. O. S. M.. officiated at the baptism. The god-parents were Mrs. Lucy Bianco, and Mr. Michael La garde. The new gong which was presented to the Logan Avenue chapel is attracting attract-ing much attention. It is very sweet of tone and adds impressiveness to the services. The donor will not allow her name to be made public, but her gift is much appreciated by the eongrega- 1 tion of the church. |
