Eleanor was stricken about three I weeks ago. and was taken from school. ; During the last nineteen days of her 1 Jife she took no nourishment. ; Edward Moore of the New York Cash ; store received the distressing news on Sunday of the death of his father. Arthur Ar-thur T. Moore, at Vancouver, B. C, on Saturday, after a short illness. Mr. Moore was formerly a resident of this ; ' city and had numerous friends here. ; liis two daughters, Miss Kate Moore, ; a teacher at the Longfellow school. and Miss Tillie Moore, a stenograpner in the Oregon Short Line offices, are " ' sorely grieved with their brother, and their many friends condole with them in their bereavement. Steps are being taken to organize the oil interests of the northwestern states with headquarters at Salt Lake City. This action is deemed imperative by reason of the steps recently taken at Denver, Colo., looking toward the centralization cen-tralization at that point of all western oil interests. The states of Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and Montana ntain practically the entire oil territory ter-ritory in the northwest, in view of ; which those most Interested claim that 1 the control of such industry should be ; ' centered at the principal city adjacent to prominent oil fields. Salt Lake City is the available center, and it is expected ex-pected that those interested in oil, oil i stocks and by-products, will soon re- j ceive notification of the time of a meeting meet-ing to be called for the purpose above j . mentioned, with a cordial invitation to ' attend. ' Senator Kearns spent a few days in i the city this week, and on Thursday departed for Washington. He pur poses to be at his post in the senate when the gavel falls on Monday. He i Js very deeply -Interested in the irriga- tion proposition that is to come be- fore congress at the present session, i and is bending all his efforts toward getting the senators and the congress-; congress-; . men from the western states to agree on some reasonable proposition that 1 will be for the benefit of all the states that need federal assistance of this t kind. The senator has been a very busy man since coming to Utah. The builders and decorators of his new home, his mining interests, his railroad 1 enterprise and the many politicians have kept him very busy, to say nothing noth-ing of the social demands made upon his time. School will be resumed at St. Mary's academy and All Hallows college next Monday, Jan. 6. . ?-- The children of the Sunday school had a most enjoyable time last Sunday Sun-day morning at the residence of Rt. Kev. Bishop Scanlan. There was a big Christmas tree in the spacious basement loaded with - good things for the little ones and made brilliant with lighted tapers and ornamentations of various kinds. Then there were candies, toys, beautiful bor.ks and other presents for all the children, and medals for the children who were faithful in attendance during dur-ing the past year. Bt. Rev. Bishop t Scanlan" presented two special medals for excellence in catechism. The boys' medal was drawn for by Henry Bintz, Vester Laubley and Maurice Kane, j Harry Bintz being the winner. The girls who drew for the other medal were Ora McDermott, Clara Fafek, Jovita Laubley and Genevieve Tyo. the latter winning the medal. After the distribution of prizes, Rt. Rev. Bishop Scanlan made a pleasing address to the children, impressing upon them the importance of the fes-I fes-I tival. Rev. Miss Lottie Owen, the leading soprano so-prano of the cathedral choir, has gone her home at Willard to spend a few days with her parents.
