The organization of the new council, of the Knights of Columbus No. 1.340. took place Sunday among a large gathering of outside visiting Knights. All attended in a body at the high mass which was gotten specially spe-cially for the occasion. Mrs. Frank Kevin, who has charge of the choir, was assisted by Mrs. George Annand, Mrs. W. L. Bowin, Miss Teresa Meloy. G. F. Deckelman. George Dennand and H. V. Meloy. Rosewg's Mass in F was solemnly rendered. Father Shee-han Shee-han sang, the mass, and Father Cush-nahan Cush-nahan of Ogden preached. The inauguration of forty. Knights, under a delegation of Salt Lake and Ogden Knights, began at 1:30 p. m. and finished at 7 o'clock. Those who conducted con-ducted the installation were James De-vine, De-vine, district deputy of Utah: Abbott Maginnis. state secretary of Utah district: dis-trict: Fred Brophy, state warden of Utah district; T. J. O'Brien, grand knight, Salt Lake council; Charles A. Maguire, grand knight. Ogden council; F. J. Cartan, Salt Lake; Frank De-vlne, De-vlne, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Roy Byrne, Omaha; C. P. A. Lonergan, Dixon (111.) council; Frank Cashman, British Columbia; Co-lumbia; Ed Morrisey and John Cooney, Ogden: P. H. Cannon, Austin Cannon and Dr. F. F. Owens of Cherry Creek; C. E. Rork, T. I. Casey and M. J. Con-ley, Con-ley, Smelter. On the arrival of the visiting Knights on Saturday they were conducted to the St. Lawrence hall In the rear of the Catholic, church, where a bountiful repast re-past was prepared by the ladies of the Altar society. Roy Byrne of Omaha served as an excellent toastmaster. Introducing In-troducing each speaker with stories experienced ex-perienced in his wide field of travel. Recognizing the rights of the sex, he introduced the pioneer business woman of White Pine ronntv. Miss Ellen Hayes, who politely and unabashed remarked re-marked that her message was too solemn sol-emn and intended for the toastmaster alone. Those who responded to the toastmaster's call were Fathers Cush-nahan Cush-nahan and Sheehan. District Deputy Devlne. Abbott Maginnis, T. J. O'Brien, Charles A. Maguire, F. J. Cartan, F. X. Murphy. The flow of oratory impressed all and will be long remembered In Ely. Mn. Frank Kevin rendered several charming charm-ing airs and was enthusiastically applauded ap-plauded after each selection. All were delighted with the grand banquet and finished their day's work by singing "America." in which the joyous crowd unanimously joined. |
