Show BLESSING OF A STATUE. (Correspondence Intermountaln Catholic.) Anaconda, July 30. On Sunday evening even-ing St. Peter's Church was the scene of very pretty and interesting ceremony, cere-mony, the occasion being the blessing of a beautiful statue of St. Anthony which was recently presented to the Church by Miss Wickie of the Montana hotel. The statue stands five feet four inches in-ches on the pedestal and is considered a handsome work of art. The devotions of the evening commenced com-menced with the singing of solemn vespers ves-pers at which Father Coopman presided. pre-sided. Rev. Father De Siere of St. Patrick's Butte, delivered an eloquent and instructive in-structive address on the life and labors of St. Anthony. He gave an interesting interest-ing sketch of the career and zeal of this great servant of God. He spoke of the grand and noble virtues for which his life was noted. He ex-i ex-i horted his hearers to cultivate a devotion devo-tion to this great Saint, to try and imitate imi-tate his example and follow in his footsteps by practicing the virtues of modesty, purity and selfdenial. At the conclusion of the sermon the blessing of the statue took place, followed fol-lowed by the benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. One of the notable features of the evening sermon was the beautiful sing-inf sing-inf of the choir which rendered in a faultless manner a- specially arranged programme of music which was much appreciated by the. large congregation present on the occasion. |
