An inspiring sipht. witnessed by hundreds hun-dreds of people, was the receiving'' of first holy communion by a class of boys and Kirls in Lopan avenue chapel last Sunday morning. The children assembled assem-bled for the 7:30 o'clock mass, celebrated cele-brated by Rev. Father Donovan, who prepared the class. In the sanctuary "as also Kcv. Father T. H. Father Malone had I come all the way from New York to be present for the occasion, his only I nephew, Thomas Henry Ryan, being a I member of the class. I I tie churrjli was very prettily deco rated for the event, quantities of white .. cut flowers and palms being used. Di- : recti - over the tabernacle reposed a white dove, symbolic of the innocence and purity of the little communicants. "My Child ('Jive Me Thy Heart, " sunp by Miss Anpela Scherrer. Miss Scherivr's voice is particularly par-ticularly pleasing and devotional. During the national eneamrment of the Grand Army of the Republic, to be hold here in September of this year, Miss Agnes Donovan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Donovan, will unveil the Beecher island monument. Miss Donovan was selected for the honor on account of the assistance which her father rendered the helpless pioneers at Beecher island in the strenuous days "when the red man held sway. Hundreds Hun-dreds of the civil war veterans will go down to AVray,- Colo..' for the event. Miss Bigler Graduates. Denver friends of Miss Ellen Iee Bigler felicitate in the honor which was conferred on her at her graduation from the training school of Corning. N. y.. hospital, where she was awarded first rank in a large class. In recognition recogni-tion of her ability Miss Bigler was immediately im-mediately installed as head nurse in the hospital. She is a Denver girl, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Y. W. Bigler, Big-ler, and is a former pupil of the Immaculate Im-maculate Conception school. Social and Personal. Jacob Scherrer and family have gone to their summer home in the country. I I Mrs. John F. Mongan of New York is visiting friends in this city. Mrs. Mon-igaii Mon-igaii was formerrly Miss May Bailey, well known in the cathedral parish for ht'r participation in church work. f Miss Hefferman of Memphis, Term., is visiting her cousins, the Misses Kennedy. f The Ladfes' society of Holy Ghost parish are 'planning to hold a dance and card party at Coliseum hall on the evening of June 19. Th? affair will be for the benefit of the new church being be-ing erected by Rev. Frederick Bender on Curtis street. Thf' women are cooperating co-operating with the pastor in raising funi3 for the church and this is in all probability the first of a series of entertainments en-tertainments at which they will be I hostesses. ' j f The Guardian Angel guild held an interesting meeting with Miss Mabel Crean, 2.137 Lincoln avenue, last week. There was a large attendance and an amount of sewing was done for the Toor who are cared for by the guild. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. Robert Hall, 1,250 Grant avenue, June 20. Commencement exercises of the Immaculate Im-maculate Conception school will be held on Wednesday frvening, June 14. An interesting programme has been arranged and invitations will be issued next week. Rev. L. H. Malone is in Denver, the gufst of his sister. Mrs. John J. Ryan, Eleventh, and Washington avenues. A tea was held at the North Side Neighborhood house last Thursday by women interested in settlement work in that sectio of the city. The Queen'? The thirty-third annual picnic of the Irish-American Progressive society will take place Sunday, June 4. at Rocky Mountain lake. Arrangements have been made for ample street car service and a thoroughly good time is assured. There will be an excellent programme of field sports for which valuable prizes are offered.
