St. James' hospital, much improved. 1 Mr. Doherty had a very narrow-escape and, while he will be compelled to rest for several weeks, he is out of danger. ( 1 The feast of St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of Rev. Father Batens of Walkerville, was celebrated., at St. Lawrence's school Saturday evening, uec. o. a programme was presented bv the, pupils of the school and the evening even-ing spent pleasantly. Clark III. sou of W. A. ('lark, jr.. and only grandson of Senator W. A. Clark, was the happy little host at the celebi atom of his second birthday birth-day on Thursday. Dec. 1. at his father's home en West Galena street, the nouns being from 3 to 6. The baby host received his little guests in the nursery on the second iloor, and after all had assembled, the front parlor upst.-iirs was opened and the children invited in to enjoy a per-foimanee per-foimanee by Conser's company of dogs. The pretty little children sat around in a circle on rug,- on the floor, and were delight -d beyond words at the tricks of the oltver little clogs. Their bright, smiling races, grouped about, presented the sweetest kind of a sight. Such shouts and shrieks of joy as filled the room made srlad the hearts of everyone present. At 5 o'clock I supper was announced and the por-1 por-1 tieres thrown aside, and what a pic-; pic-; ture it showed. The long table, all in pink and white, laden with beautiful pink blossoms and pink ribbons, formed the prettiest of settings, which was framed by the eighteen beautiful babies sitting around it. The week which was so full of delightful de-lightful social functions, registered a beautiful dance, given on Wednesday evening of last week by Mrs. Thomas Lavelle at her home .irv . This very popular hostess is noted for the charming manner in which sh? entertains, and the younger set of Butte have from time to time been the recipients of many pretty social favors, as her list is never limited to a chosen few, but all of her friends from the unmarried set are bidden. The Italian orchestra furnished music of the finest character for the dancers i and the jolliest sort of an evening was spent by the guests. So many handsome hand-some and prettily tinted - gowns were worn that the ensemble resembled a variegated picture of brightness and COlOr. I , At midnight supper "was served", and all through the evening punch and ice cold lemonade were served to re- j fresh the dancers. A grand sacred church concert win be given at St. Patrick's church on Dec. 11 by the choir and congregation and the receipts will be used for church decorations. Rev. Queens-town, Queens-town, and visit his former home. John M. Daugherty. of Omaha,. Xeb., .who has large business interests in Butte, was in the city during the week, a guest at the Thornton. F. Gridley, one of the leading business busi-ness men of Salt Lake, is in the city, a guest at the Thornton. At the last meeting of division Xo. 2. A, O. Robert Blacktnore, aged 58 years, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Catherine Conway, 54 Blue Wing avenue, Walkerville. Mr. Black-more Black-more had been a resident and miner in this city a number of years. The funeral funer-al took place Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house. Services at St. Lawrence's church were conducted by Rev. Father Batens. The . funeral of Angclo Oriotti was held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence . in Meader-ville. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Daly, pioneer residents res-idents of this city, Wednesday, Xov. 20 received a message from Butte announcing an-nouncing the death at that place of their daughter. Mrs. Celia McDonald. The sad intelligence was entirely unexpected, un-expected, as Mrs. McDonald, had left Helena for her home in Batte Tuesday evening in the best of health apparently, apparent-ly, and th? blow falls heavily upon the family. Mrs. McDonald was born in this city 30 years ago, and resided here I until KS!). when she was married to j Mr. McDonald, then a Xorthern Pacific (and now a well known Butte engineer. Ihe occasion of her last visit to Helena v as the illness1 of her sister. Miss Mary B. Daly. Beside the husband, parents and s'ster mentioned, Mrs. McDonald leaves three sisters, Mrs. Margaret McKinnon, Mrs. James McVeigh and Mrs. Joseph Dazelle. of Butte, and two brothers. Hugh Daly, jr.. and John Daly. The body of Mrs. McDonald was brought to Helena Wednesday night. O'Leary won the first prize, a hand- i somely embossed candelabra. The second sec-ond prize, a cut glass celery tray, was won by Mrs. D. B.
