Show ; Broadcast Programs Of Interest By Robert Crookston j Each Thursday at 1:45 o'clock l over CBS there is a splendid pro-jgram pro-jgram fromour congressmen at the eapitoL : This week Senator Wagner explained ex-plained the need of better homes for working people at a cost which ' they can reach. j At the present time there are i ! several men in congress who share! ,'the same beliefs as Senator Wa-! jgner for more concern about the : under-privileged. j Workers on low wages should be (grateful for .such men and sup-1 jport them Iwith' their vote at every ejection, the vote is the only weapon the .worker has. j The . main difficulty is that too i ' many workers are lazy about j I working their brain. They arej j content . to remain misinformed I and when an election for pubiic officers comes along they don't; know what it is all about. i The plans of Senator Wagner! and his associates are to use Fed- j era! money and buEd modern 3-and 3-and 4 room houses to rent for 9 ! to 12 dollars per month. Many filthy tenement houses and slum districts are being re-' placed with sanitary, i comfortable! homes at lower reni than was1 paid for the dark and musty old fire traps that were downed by wealthy Shylocks. s Logan is well suppliedwwith men! who put forth great effoj-t to get the PWtA and WPA projects in the shape . of elaborate college butdings, also roads, bridges, mosquito mos-quito projects and golf teiirses. I Now we need unselfish public spirited persons who -will get busy and get Federal funds and j build municipal apartments to rent with no profit considered, but for the low sum that would enable I I workers to keep clean and 4ieal-thy. 4ieal-thy. ' A very good example of ;how successful this can be done is to' take note of the new attractive' and modern in every way woman's dormitory building at the college. This air conditioned palate is not I put there to earn profits, but to i provide people homes at just- a few dollars. Of course the men who build, apartments to earn profits are J j not so enthused at that plan of j i public ownership, it is too near j socialism. i |
