Show COLLEGE FACULTY HOLDS FIRST MEETING OF THE YEAR I The first meeting of faculty members at the Utah State Agri-cultural Agri-cultural College for the coming ' r college year was held Friday at ' 10 a.m. in the little theatre on the campuB. Dr. Elmer G. Peterson, president of the college, presided presid-ed at the opening session and ex-tend-ed a hearty welcome to new members. Dean of the schools and heads of the departments intro- duced new members to the group. Rural communities have contributed con-tributed greatly to the scholarship and leadership of this college, President Peterson said. "The institution in-stitution ha,; developed fine democratic dem-ocratic spirit in both the student body and the faculty and I hope it may continue" he said. The President said he was very desir ous to keep the love of learning and the respect for scholarship and particularly the scholarship in the faculty. Dr. Peterson cited the improvements improve-ments made in the various de-i de-i partment during the summer - months and particularly lauded the work done in utilizing heretofore hereto-fore unused space in the agronomy, agron-omy, botany and engineering de- ' partments. He praised the completion com-pletion of the new Residence Hall with its many benefits and added that he hoped the field house would soon be reidy te alleviate conditions in the gymnasium. Professor V. H. Tingey gave the report for the registration committee com-mittee and explained the procedure proce-dure for registration days. W. T. Bell, registrar, reported on figures regarding transcripts of new students' stu-dents' credits and compared th figures with those of last year. He also gave a brief resume of the work done by the entrance committee. Other reports given at the meeting meet-ing included: Dr. Arden Frandsen, of the committee on personnel and guidance; Professor Harry Reynolds of the entertainment committee, and Dr. W. W. Henderson Hen-derson of the committee on attendance at-tendance and scholarship. Following the meeting the faculty fac-ulty journeyed to the college forestry for-estry camp 25 miles up Logan canyon where beefsteak dinner was served. |
