Show Case Workers Become Party Politicians SALT LAKE CITY Charges that Utah sales tax receipts have become "a football for petty poli- ticians" were hurled Wednesday night by George J. Pox as members mem-bers of the Utah Old Age Pension Organization opened a political campaign "on behalf and only on behalf of those candidates who will support our program." The organization's state organizer, organ-izer, addressing more than 100 members assembled in the city and county building park, demanded demand-ed that "all state sales tax receipts re-ceipts be used for their original purpose for assistance for the old and needy.". "On behalf of this organization, I demand that positions held by all state welfare case . workers be abolished," Mr. Fox said. "The case workers are politicians and already are campaigning for candidates who will guarantee them their jobs. In Utah there are at least 315 such case workers, being paid an average of more than $100 per month. It costs $46,000 a month of the sales tax money to support these men and women. That money should go to the people who really need it. "We axe going to elect legislators legisla-tors who will repudiate such ac- tion as that of their predecessors, who gave the state building fund $150,000 in sales tax money, as well as handing two colleges $165,-000 $165,-000 out of that fund. We consider consid-er the sales tax as an insurance fund for the needy." Mr. Fox said candidates would be supported only after they pledged support to the program which demands not less than $30 a month for aged persons, unem- ployables and widows in need, and not less than $10 a month for de- -f pendent children. if Also a speaker on the program ! was Keen Polk of Salt Lake City 4 who addressed the gathering on 4 "Finance as It Applies to Your Organization." |
