Show THE UTAH SITUATION the assayer which is i published in washington P D C contains an editorial in it its issue of august I 1 1898 entitled the utah situation u the assayer goes on cm to say I 1 cannon withdrew from the st louis convention it is the duty ot the democratic party of utah to reelect re elect that gentleman to the united states senate the assayer further farther states that f whatever narrow views some gentlemen may take in their opposition to the return retarn of senator cannon their motives will be attributed by the democratic party outside of the state of utah to a desire to nullify the coalition that exists between the silver republicans the populist and the loyal democrats and that the defeat of senator cannon will forever separate the silver republicans irom from the democratic party we know not what ideas others may entertain upon these propositions but according to our ideas if senator cannon and those who call themselves silver republicans are only interested in the silver silve r cause to the extent of securing his reelection election re to the united states state senate then he ought to be overwhelmingly and ominously ignominiously ign defeated for we are not in favor of rewarding senator cannon with a thirty thousand dollar position simply because he withdrew from the st louis convention with the understanding 13 that some few of those who call themselves democrats would endeavor to compel the democratic party of utah to fall down upon their hands and knees and forever worship senator cannon the editor of the assayer has the supreme gall to say that hat it was owing to the actions of senators teller cannon and a few others that enabled the democratic party to take the stand which it did upon the silver question that is wholly and entirely false and untrue for if we remember rightly the leaders of the democratic party under the leadership of john P altgeld of ill and in many other states had declared in favor of the free coinage of silver many months prior to the st louis convention the assayer further states that if the democrats in the state of utah attempt to defeat senator r cannon the national leaders of the democratic party should take a good od sized club and drive the them m from the p party arty we do not desire to enter into a controversy co with the editor of od the assayer upon thit that proposition tion but bat r it is our oar dp opinion euion however that the leaders of the democratic party of utah ought to take two large sized dabs clubs and drive the natio national hallead leaders out of the party for interfere ins inthe in the political affairs of state and for endeavor inlo tam aam senator cannon wy body boots bita ind and Ali alidor all down dou the throats of cratic party ay of attah it tt Is the Anie rican a two tronald fil d y s bandoni ban doii t erects 7 V asom dead white man who 4 at some afen period L rs 1 0 of he ra si aa W io FU C 91 ro y C 1 regard L of bi roaey abd property t ts t lv idaa okd jug |
