Show I i America to Have Largest Airplanes in World & 4 ' O".- 5 ' X - . , X ' ' ; 1 A drawing of what will be one of a fleet of the four largest airplanes in the world, to be completed by the end of 1930 at a cost of $3 ,000,000 by the General Development company of Connecticut, under the guidance of Dr. 'William 'Wil-liam Whitney Christmas, inventor of the aileron balancing system used on all airplanes. The huge ships are "(lying wings" with a wing spread of 262 feet, overall height of 31 feet, length of 13S feet and gross weight of 72.5 tons. Each plane will have eight engines, each over 1,000 horse power in two units of four, and is designed to carry 160 passengers luxuriously sleeping, eating and entertainment accomodations and a crew of 17. The maximum capacity under Department of Commerce regulations will be 206 passengers. |
