Show TO STIMULATE HOME-OWNING. For many months President Hoover has had thirty-one committees investigating inves-tigating the possibility of stimulating the buying and building of homes. These committees represent civic, financial, fin-ancial, trade and labor groups, and have approaclitd the problem as a question combining better housing, more, si.cure financing for the homeowner, home-owner, desired activity in material markets and the need of jobs for building workers. When they meet early in December they no doubt will thresh out a plan to make home building build-ing or home-owning more attractive, and should also consider the serious ease of the present owner who is in j time of depression not a profitable j mortgagee. I Now is certainly the ideal time to buy or build a home, and every permanent per-manent family with a little capital should look about for a bargain. There are many of them in every city in the country. Prices are at rock-bottom, rock-bottom, building costs are much lower than they have been for years. It is a good time to begin a real campaign to interest people with moderate incomes in-comes in modestly-built but attractive attrac-tive houses. Most cities, Cincinnati among them, are under-built in this field. If the Hoover conference can work out a lenient though safe credit plan for small home buyers, it is a logical field for wide expansion of building. The President pointed out the most difficult problem to be solved when he said that the credit system in, home building was unsatisfactorily organized, and that the high rates of such credit during the great inflation stifled home-owning and caused many I property owners to lose their holdings. hold-ings. This is among the threats that must be removed if an appeal to the home-owning instinct is to accomplish anything worthwhile. Meanwhile, everyone hopes for full success of the conference, knowing that even if actual accomplishments are not great it is the sum total of small accomplishments that will tie together the frayed ends of prosperity. prosper-ity.
