Show EDUCATION WEEK,. NOVEMBER 7-13. From November 7 to 13, the 12th Annual American Education week will be observed. This week will give every teacher and every parent and all other citizens in the United States an opportunity to again give expression expres-sion to a faith; and confidence in the greatest educational and stabilizing force in the world our public schools. The most hopeful sign in American life during the present period per-iod of depression is the fact that 995,000 classrooms have kept open to leceive a fcurih of the nation's population popu-lation to be trained to carry on our blessings and improve our civilization. civiliza-tion. Each year the observation of Education Edu-cation week is sponsored by the Am- erican league, the U. S. Office of Education, and the National Education Educa-tion association. The general theme this year is the "Schools and the Nation's Founders." The suggested topics for day by day programs are as follows: Monday, November 7 "The Homes of the Pioneers"; Tuesday, November Novem-ber 8 "The Schools of the Pioneers" ; Wednesday, November 9 "Two Centuries Cen-turies of Progress in New-world Schools"; Thursday, November 10 "The Schools and Equality of Opportunity"; Oppor-tunity"; Friday, November 11 "The Schools and American Ideals"; Saturday, Satur-day, November 12 "The Schools and Progressive Living"; Sunday, November Novem-ber 13 "The Schools and the Things of. the Spirit." Programs of each state and community com-munity will be adapted to their particular par-ticular needs and conditions. This approach ap-proach to the subject will entail thinking in terms of appreciation of what the public school means to the community, its present needs, its cost compared with other things in personal per-sonal and community budget, its history, his-tory, philosophy, relation to life, character of citizenship and national progress. Libraries will be helpful in obtaining obtain-ing material for short talks on various vari-ous subjects. References may be had in libraries to copies of the journal of the National Education association for pertinent matter. |
