Show Bigger, Better Band Is Aim of Instructor Gunnison Valley's high school band, which has been making fine progress during the past winter, is sure to make further advances in musical ventures if the spirit of cooperation of students and citizens is more strongly shown. There is a lack in the band members of clarinet players, so important to harmony and good renditions, ren-ditions, and to induce more clarinet players to complete this particular work free instructions are to be offered of-fered during the summer months. Milton Perkins, music instructor at the Gunnison high school, recently returned from the Agricultural college, col-lege, where he spent three weeks specializing spe-cializing in band work under the not- j ed instructor, A. W. McAllister, of the Joliet, HI., high school. Prof. McAllister McAllis-ter is noted throughout the nation as one of the cleverest instructors in band music, and a large class from all parts of Utah took advantage of his valued instructions and his method me-thod of teaching. Mr. Pek:ns has announced that he will starf free lessons in clarinet work to all students desiring to take the j course, Ms idea being to educate a j larger section in the school band. This opportunity should not be overlooked, and parents with musically-inclined 1 children! should get firmly back of ; the movement and urge for a better and bigfer band. The city, the school j and othtrs should appreciate the fact, that a land of high school class mu-i sicians Is a big asset. Bandj music is to be featured as a j daily sunt in both the high school i and at; the Washington grade school in Gunnison with the opening of j school this fall, Mr. Perkins stated. He also asks that those desiring to specialize in clarinet work register with him as soon as practical, so that ' students may be advanced and be able to enter the band by the opening of school. |
