Show Reinstating of Trains Is Backed By Local Lions Cooperating fully with the officials of the Denver & Rio Grande Railway company, in the efforts of the latter to reinstate train service from Manti to the terminal at Marysvale, the Gunnison Lions club went on record at a recent meeting as heartily favoring fav-oring the movement. The handling of the mail, which would best serve the interests of patrons in Sanpete, Sevier, Sev-ier, Piute, Garfield and Kanab cox -ties, is the paramount issue and n endeavor is being made by civic and other clubs along the line of service, to aid the railway company in securing secur-ing the mail contract, and in tha event the company is awarded ti e contract, it is promised that a fast train would leave Salt Lake early in the morning, thus affording an entire change from the capital city to Kanab. Kanab, as the mail situation situa-tion now stands, is not receiving a daily service, and the citizens ara registering a just kick. In the event of the reinstatement of the train service, ser-vice, the Kane county metropolis would receive a daily service, tha mail reaching there at about 5 o'clock in the evening. The resolution adopted by the Gunnison Gun-nison Lions club, duly signed by the president, C. E. Andersen, and secretary, secre-tary, Ira Overfelt, has been forwarded forward-ed to Walter F. Brown, United States postmaster general, at Washington, D. C, and follows: "Resolved, that good mail service is vitally necessary for the advancement, advance-ment, not only for this community, but all of Southern Utah, along and tributary to the Marysvale branch of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad company, and it is tha judgment of the members of thi3 club, that after full consideration and discussion, that better mail service and, therefore, community betterment better-ment can be had if the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad company com-pany can be induced to restore through passenger, mail, and express service on its Marysvale branch between be-tween Salt Lake City and Marysvale; that this club understands that the railroad company is willing to restore such service if it can obtain "a special mail contract from the territory along its Marysvale branch and to handle as far as, Marysvale, the mail for the territory, Marysvale to Kanab; that believing such railroad and mail service ser-vice would be of infinate benefit to our community and all other communities com-munities in the territory involved, we respectfully request and urge the postoffice department to help us in our efforts to advance the business interests of our community and give, our people the benefit of that con-I con-I tact with the capital of our state and thence with the outside world by giving giv-ing the mail contract for the territory terri-tory between Salt Lake City ind Marysvale, and the handling, as ar as Marysvale, of mail for Kanab nd territory intermediate between Marysvale and Kanab, to the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad company." |
