Show Marrying Breaks School Contracts; Suits Threatened Naughty, naughty women school ' teachers! Signing a contract to teach ' during a term of school, then secretly 1 marrying and continuing until the 1 contract expires is in strict violation of the contract, in the opinion of the South Sanpete school board. So incensed in-censed are the board members of "cheating" on the part of Mary Gardner and Helen Anderson that the board voted unanimously to investigate investi-gate proceedings against the two accused ac-cused to collect salary for breach of contract from date of marriage until the close of school. According to action ac-tion of the board, the case is to be given a test in order to determine whether a woman teacher can secretly marry, maintain her maiden name while teaching, and draw salary regularly. regu-larly. The rules of the school board, passed some two years ago, are to the effect that married women would be barred from teaching, and the sly way the two defendants "put it ovex" has aroused the ire of the entire board, and a real test is to be made in the case. In the report of the meeting held July 23, and published in the Manti Messenger, President Lund stated that representatives of the throe banks in the district had decided that if the rule in vogue the past few years, which provided for the distribution distri-bution of the deposit of the school funds in the three banks, was to be changed, that the Manti bank be the depository. The members of the board strongly opposed any change, and the rule of distributing the funds in the three banks will not be changed. The attack on W. G. Frischknecht, started in previous board meetings to oust Frischknecht, went glimmering at the July 23 meeting. Frischknecht appeared before the board and strenuously stren-uously objected to tho stipulation in tne minutes relative to the issuing of his contract. After listening to the explanation of the matter by Mr. Frischknecht, and a round-table talk, it was voted to issue, unconditionally, the contract to Mr. Frischknecht. Selection of a teaching corps for the coming school year for the various var-ious schools in the South Sanpete district dis-trict and the date for the opening of the schools, has not as yet been determined. |
