Show THE AMERICAN LEGION REAL AMERICANS. The American Legion, whose national na-tional convention was recently held in Chicago, placed itself as a 100 per cent American organization through its resolutions asking for stricter punishment of agitators seeking the I overthrow of the American govern- j ment, condemning the proposal to recognize re-cognize Communist Russia, drnounc- : ing Hitlerism and any attempt to. inaugurate in-augurate a similar movement in this country, and opposing any relaxation of the immigration laws, war debt cancellation or reduction, and en- : trance into the League of Nations and the World Court. The Legion took its stand upon a rock-bottom foundation of pure Americanism Am-ericanism and democratic government under the constitution. This is what the nation expected of it and it has j no t been disappointed. The action of the Legion is. somehow, some-how, one of the most comforting things that has happened in this disordered dis-ordered country in a long time. It calls for our return to the political faith of our fathers in democracy and democratic institutions, and utters a challenge to unpatriotic elements within the country. So long as such a spirit prevails the United States government gov-ernment is not likely to be seriously attacked nor undermined by those futile fu-tile individuals and organizations which, filled with false theories, would bring destruction upon us by trying to induce us to adopt the Old World's new ways. The patriotic people of America, whatever their class, whatever their political, social or religious beliefs, owe the American Legion a vote of thanks1 for its rugged stand in behalf of real Americanism. |
