Show Utah's Humble Hen Attracts Attention The humble hen and her famous product eggs are holding the center cen-ter of the stage in Utah this week, with the entire state paying tribute to their importance as builders of industry in-dustry and payrolls, and as healthful, wholesome and nutritious food. Celebrations and meetings featuring featur-ing educational talks on eggs and poultry are being held throughout the state as part of Utah's observance of "national egg week," May 1 to 7. The week is sponsored nationally by the National Poultry council, an organization or-ganization embracing all poultry interests. in-terests. Chamber of commerce organizations, organiza-tions, civic and service clubs and the schools over the entire state have been cooperating with the state poultry poul-try association, county farm bureaus and the Utah State Agricultural college, col-lege, in making the observance a success. suc-cess. ; Much has ben accomplished :n creating interest in the poultry industry, in-dustry, one of this state's major commercial com-mercial enterprises, and in stimulating stimulat-ing an increased consumption of eggs. Speakers before the various clubs, such as ICiwanis, Rotary, Lions and Exchange, have told of tlie growth of Utah's poultry industry from one insufficient in-sufficient lo meet local needs, to one which now exports nearly $10,000,000 worth of products, mostly eggs, annually. an-nually. Similar programs of education have been carried on :n the schools during the week under the direction of Carl Frischknecht, assistant assis-tant poidtryman of the U. S. A. C. extension service. National "egg week" is expected to be a great benefit to the American poultry industry Ifcy increasing the consumption of eg gs as well as public pub-lic interest in the poultry business. Utah, as a great exporter of eggs and drr-ssed poultry, should come in for a large share raf Uhis benefit, since any stimulus to consumption will react re-act favorably on pieces. |
