Show Local Trackmen Crowd Wasatch Gunnison high school athletes, in two track meets during the past week, made creditable showings, and in the invitational track meet held at the Gunnison Valley high school cinder track Wednesday of last week, the boys walked away with second placa with a tot.-. 1 number of points of 87'. Wasatch academy of Mt. Pleasant, topped the group with a total of 97'!, points. Mailt i and Ephraim had entrants en-trants and Ephraim ended with 21 points and Manti with 16 points. The day was not ideal for track I work. At the opening of the events a big crowd was present, but shortly after a bitter wind, followed by snow, sent many under cover. The boys taking tak-ing part in the meet, however, stood the trying ordeal and all events were com pleted. Gunnison captured seven first places plac-es and, many seconds. Mclff was first in the 440-yard dash, and Voorhees was first to cross the tape in th half-mile run. In the pole vault, Mor-tensen Mor-tensen and Voorhees tied for first place. Both entrants were from Gunnison. Gun-nison. Coach Payton Alexander took a portion of his crew to Richfield last Saturday to take part in a few of the eventa staged by region 4 track meet. One of the outstanding features of the exhibition of the Gunnison athletes ath-letes was the medly relay race. Nielson, Niel-son, Mortensen, Mclff and Voorhees staged a beautiful run and captured first honors. |
