Show Vets Urged to Apply ForBonusByDec.31 December 31 of this year is the last day in which filings may be made for the .adjusted compensation, commonly com-monly known as the soldiers' bonus, yet a number of ex-soldiers, estimated at several thousands, residing in this state have not yet applied, it was announced Tuesday by Dr. L. J. Paul, regional manager of the United States Veterans' bureau in charge oi Utah. If the veterans themselves died during or after the war without applying ap-plying for the bonus, their widows, mothers or fathers are eligible, providing pro-viding application is made before Jan. 1, Dr. Paul said. All honorable discharged veterans of the World War are entitled to the bonus, which is in form of a 20-year endowment insurance policy fully paid by the government. The value of said policy is computed on the length of the veteran's service; $1 being allowed allow-ed for each day of home service and $1.25 for each day spent over seas. In case the veteran died without making application, his widow, mother moth-er or father will get the full amount of the bonus, but without any interest; inter-est; only of course if filing is 'made within the allotted time, Dr. Paul explained. ex-plained. According to the local manager, the bonus insurance is not the same as the government insurance upon which the men pay premiums. All veterans, whether or not they took 'overnment insurance while in the service, are now eligible for policies, ranging to $10,000 in amount, if they are in good health and quality physically. |
