Show NEW AMERICAN TRIUMPH. A new process for the manufacture of aluminum, which it is claimed wiH make America Independent of obt;iin-ing obt;iin-ing that product from foreign countries coun-tries and will tremendously Increase its use in the automobile and other industries, was announced a few days ago by Charles B. Bonn, president of the Rohn Aluminum & Brass corporation corpora-tion of Detroit. The discovery, the outcome of five years of experimental work, will result re-sult in a $15,000,000 to $20,000,-000 $20,000,-000 expansion project in Detroit, Mr. Bohn said, adding that the process, which involves the use of alunite ore, results in a purer product than that now produced. The expansion program, to han'lle large scale manufacturing of the r.ew product, will include the erection of a sheet and wire mill, and a plant will also be built near the era deposit de-posit at Marysvale, Utah. A $50,000 plant, to be used in perfecting production pro-duction operations, will be constructed construct-ed immediately. It was pointed out that the manufacture manu-facture of aluminum in America has heretofore, been a monopoly of the Mellon-controlled Aluminum Company Com-pany of America, whore mater'i.ls are principally obtained from British Guiana and Germany. The many advantages of producing produc-ing aluminum entirely through the employment of American labor and raw materials may be readily seen, and Mr. Bohn's announcement will doubtless be received with general satisfaction. |
