Show JAPAN'S NEW MOVE. While the League of Nations and the diplomats of Europe are busy trying to find a solution of the Italo-Ethiopian Italo-Ethiopian situation, word comes that Japan will shortly take-virtual possession pos-session of another large area in northern China, containing some 100 million people. Various reports are current concerning con-cerning this new move on the part of Japan,' one being to the effect that the people of the territory she seeks will acquiesce without armed resistance. resis-tance. In any event, there seems little lit-tle duobt that Japan will ultimately have her way, as she did in Manchuria Man-churia in 1932. The Chinese government at Nanking, Nan-king, overawed by the presence of a strong Japanese army near the border, bor-der, seems unlikely to offer any serious ser-ious opposition to Japan's program. Inasmuch as the League of.. Nations Na-tions did nothing about the seizure of Manchuria except appoint a committee, com-mittee, whose report Japan . rejected with contempt, it is not likely that the League will be able to. ;do anything any-thing about the present situation,-as Japan is no longer a member nation. From the American viewpoint, it .seems more and more evident as iime goes on that the United. States did well by keeping but of the League of Nations, thereby remaining remain-ing free to maintain our neutrality with respect to foreign controversies. |
