Show Gunnison Anglers Take Mack Family Think of it a whole family of fish! The papa, a Mackinaw, weight 17 pounds, 37 inches long and 20 inches in circumference; the mama, another Mackinaw, weight five and a half pounds, and the only son, a baby Mack, weighing a pound and a half, were obliterated in one day, giving up their happy homes in the denizens of the blue water at Fishlake last Saturday. Sat-urday. It meant joy and happiness to the anglers, Ira Overfelt and Gordon Sorenson, but to the fish as if in the world of punishment they have been roasted and furnished a delicious feast to several families. Ira Overfelt, cashier for the Gunnison Gunni-son Valley bank, and Gordon Sorenson, Soren-son, manager of the Gunnison Valley Motor company, and where Ford cars can be purchased, answered the call of the wilds last Saturday and went to Fishlake. It was not announced what the anglers expected to do in the way of providing the poor and needy with a Sunday fish dinner. In fact, only chances were ahead. But luck came their way, and while drifting over the billowy waves of the great lake, Papa Mackinaw took a chance on a lure at the end of the copper line, manipulated by Sorenson. His "jig" was up. Expert maneuvering by Sorenson Sor-enson brought the fish to the surface, and it was here that Overfelt showed his skill. Quite often fish of lesser size make their get-away after being hooked, but not so with Papa Mack. With the alertness of a sea fisherman, fisher-man, Overfelt gently placed the landing land-ing net under the "big boy" and hoisted hoist-ed the prize into the boat. It took a good-sized monkey wrench, wielded heavily, to put the monster fish to eternal sleep. With this fish story, believe it or not, Gunnison can now boast of having hav-ing two experts, who will clash with somp of the notables in landing "big fish." |
