Show I Beet Vacation Is Finally Granted School students, who were carrying long faces after a decree by the school j board that there would be no beet i vacation, were full of glee and some had the "jitters" Monday, when the 1 school board changed the orders and ' declared the schools closed until Mon-' day, November 4. It was not until after the beet digging started that the South Sanpete school board changed the former decision. When schools opened Monday, the atten-1 dance was far below normal, and with the indications that other students would be called into the beet fields to help harvest the heavy crop, thus further reducing the attendance, it was then decided to give the two-week two-week vacation. While it is true that many of the children of the lower grades will be of little use in harvesting the boot crop, it was found necessary to grant the leave to those more mature, and to continue the schools with fifty per j cent or less attendance would be folly. fol-ly. Under the new law, covering the child labor act, only those under the age limit of the provision can work j for their parents. None, according to j the "poor" law for the west, can hire ; out to others. Facult:es of the high school and grade schools of the valley are to take advantage of the beet vacation and will attend the annual Utah Educational Edu-cational association convention, which starts tonight at Salt Lake for a two-day two-day session. The faculties of all the valley schools plan attending the convention con-vention 100 per cent. Many left for the capital city earlier in the week, Wednesday a large delegation went north. It is the plan to spend Thursday Thurs-day visiting several of the schools at Silt Lake, and the same night attend at-tend the opoi session of the Utah Educational association convention. The convepion proceed'ngs, it has been announced, will be filled with interesting events. Many national educators will be in attendance, and talks by them, as well as renowned , local educators, will be featured.
