Show Repair Work Done By City Government Under the supervision of Mayor John S. Peterson and members of the street committee of the city council, many badly needed improvements are being made, primary among which is the replacement of the large flume coursing south across Center street. The old flume, for many years a nuisance nui-sance because of its inadequacy to carry off the flood waters', is being replaced by a 12x12 inch concrete flume, the new flume will have two manholes, thus enabling access to any clogging condition. In many parts of the city, where culverts have broken in and decayed, new ones are being installed, and in general repairs are being made to care for any flood water wa-ter condition. The many fire hydrants, too, are being put in shape, and provision is being made so that the taps will be more accessible in case of fire. Several Sev-eral new meters have been installed at residences, and today more than 200 are in operation. The method of water distribution through meters is proving one of the great assets to the city and is resulting in a great saving. Ornamental trees will he planted at the City hall grounds and considerable consider-able work will be done at the cemetery ceme-tery to add beauty to that place. A goodly crew of men are being employed em-ployed as a matter to aid in the unemployment un-employment movement. |
