Show Registration Low On Opening Days Schools of the valley were opened for the fall and winter term last Monday morning with only a fair registration. Due to the fact that many families have removed from the -.city and valley and also that many are yet detained in harvesting crops and assisting at the homes, the registration in the grade schools fell below; that of last year. At the Gunnison v Valley high school the registration was little changed oyer that of 1927-28, the number of pupils pu-pils being enrolled this season being 122, practically the same as that of last year. Organization of classes at the high school has been completed according ac-cording 1 to Principal Bardsley. A new feature "is -being adopted, which, it is thought, will add greatly to efficiency ef-ficiency in study for students. Heretofore Here-tofore classes have been allowed forty-five minutes for a study per- j iod. This year the time has been ' extended to one hour. A slight decrease in registration ; at the Washington school is reported; by J. E.' Metcalf, principal. The lower grades . . in . the Washington show the heaviest' enrollment, and are as" follows: First grade,' 35; second sec-ond grade, 39; third grade, 35; j fourth, .32, and the fifth, .31. The sixth, -seventh and- eighth show registration regis-tration of 29, 27 and 22, respectively.! At the; Lincoln public school at Centerfield, the registration is slight- ' ly below, also, the total only 'being 209. .The attendance will be ,aug-.j mented, Principal Watts believes, 1 within a week or two, by boys from the farms,. who are yet detained at! work. At the Lincoln class and fac-' ulty organizations have been completed com-pleted and by the end of the week , it was announced that organization ! for school ground supervision would be completed.- ,, .
