Show Let's Get On The Map; Boost Highway No. 89 "It is getting about high time that if this section of the country is going to get on the map of progression, they should get together and 'do something' some-thing' or we will be left sitting alongside along-side the track and passed up like a pay train would a tramp. "We have got to get in and make a big noise. Then follow that noise up with real action. We do not mean maybe, and also mean that every mother's mo-ther's son of a town that is on the Grand Canyon highway has got to get in with us and help to maintain that 'big noise' and keep it up. "Road 'Eighty-Nine' has got to be made to stand out like a house on fire if we want any recognition aside from 'dig up' and be pushed over to one side until someone wants to use us for something. We have got to put this road on the map in big red letters, and the only way to do this is for this section of the country that is fortunate fortun-ate enough to be on '89,' one of the best roads in the state of Utah, to be represented in the proper manner, and the only way to do that is to stick together. Hold a meeting of every town along the line, and stand pat "Of course we realize we are only 'small Utah towns,' but we can be heard if we bellow loud enough, and make a good big effort to be recognized recog-nized in the eyes of the world. "With Bryce National park within a stone's throw of us, and one of the most beautiful spots in the whole lay- j out of scenery of Southern Utah, with j the best road's in the state leading their doorway We , believe that if that railroad was ; appp'roached ir the proper manner, something couM be done regarding the - handling of passengers on this side of the mountain. moun-tain. As it is, it will, take somrano from Salt Lake Ctiy just, about three days to even visit Bryce from up north and get back to their work, whereas they could make the round trip and stay overnight at Bryce in two days. "This office has daily inquiries regarding re-garding the visiting of Bryce und how the trip can be made on schedule time without going away around by some round-about way. "Let's call a meeting and get buy and see if we cannot do something and do it right away. Show a little real spirit and go after something and get it." The foregoing story,, written by "BUT Peters, and appearing in his paper, the Garfield County News, ua-der ua-der the date of May 31,' is hittinjr in the right direction. Editor Pete-ra is one of the "loudest boosters" for Southern Utah's sceniclands that can be found, and his efforts ''in, the pst in "bucking" the capitol knocking interests in-terests all alone have not avaikd a great deal. And his idea of enliei i .g the support of every city, town -ir.tX ha.mlet along route "89," to Yiilp spread tidings that tlie highway through Panguiteh, Marysvalc Canyon, Can-yon, through the beautiful valleys cf Sevier and Sanpete, far surpasw.s ti -it "on the west side," where a bleak :..'iJ hot desert, scurrying gophers and right out to it, why should we not have the publicity due us? We hear of big speeches made, telling all about the distances to certain 'scenic wonders' won-ders' (?) and about how easy they are to be reached, and often, very often, they never mention Bryce. Whether Whe-ther it is jealousy or just what, we are at a loss to know. Then people come through and tell us that 'they' are told they cannot make Bryce,' and all that tommyrot. The proper thing to do is to get hold of some of these people who are told this stuff, get an affidavit from them and then publish it, stating just- who told that stuff I and see if someone cannot be shamed out of such bum work, no matter who it is. "We believe that a committee from this entire section should get togeth- er, wait on the D. & R. G. W., and see if there is not some way a regular regu-lar bus line can be put on from Marysvale to Bryce National park, and some advertising done regarding :hat beauty spot that is right here in ' plenty of jackrabbits afford the only pleasure for the "misdirected" trav- eler. j Realizing that the capitol city in-j in-j terests were doing little for the comfort com-fort and pleasure of the travel era, in : so far as routing is concerned, who will attend the dedication of tho bridge over the Colorado river at Lee's Ferry June 11 and 15, representatives repre-sentatives of commercial and civics clubs from Panguiteh Marysvalo, Salina and other points, met with representatives of the Richfield L'ous club Monday evening at Richfield, and tho "ball" was started rollng with ;i view to broadcasting information to take the matter up at once and hy the time everything is in readiness for the dedication at the bridgo, thousands of travelers will have firsthand first-hand information as to the accomodations accomoda-tions offered, the beautiful valleys, fine homes, green fields, safe, sivro a.nd frequent filling stations and i--ngos, and the happy, logical, shortest short-est route, if they travel over route 89. |
