Show Slave Trade In Epypt. Since the slave trade was abolished in Egypt an asylum for female slaves has been maintained in Cairo. The Blave trade is stdl carried ou surreptitiously to some extent, and efforts ore especially made to procure inmates for the harems of tho wealthy. In 170 female slaves intended for the harems were rescued, and provided with a homo at the asylum. Most of these women were negresses, but some of them were pretty Circassian and Abyssinian girls. All these women aro retained re-tained at ihe asylum untd they receive some education, and ore fitted to support them selves by work provided for them. During the year thirty slave denlere were found guilty and sentenced to prison. New Yort Sun. |
