Show Valley Cauliflower-Wins Cauliflower-Wins First Prize Gunnison Valley cauliflower, which has gained a nation-wide reputation in only a' few months, was declared by the judges at the Utah St'e fair, held at Salt Lake last week, to be the superior to any exhibited, and accordingly a handsome blue ribbon was attached to the exhibit and tho first award was given to the valley product. The exhibit, and one which attracted gardeners and others, was made by S. Kimura, the well known Japanese: gardener. Not only did Kimura pull down the firsi prize i-n cauliflower, but his exhibit of cabbage, cab-bage, the Danish Bald'hcad variety, captured the first prize. Considering the fact that there was a mons;.er exhibit of both cauliflower cauli-flower and cabbage fiom all parts of the state and competing against some splendid exhibits, speaks volumes vol-umes for the Gunnison Valley product, pro-duct, and naturally those from this section are highly elated over the victory . Mr. Kimura, who recently returned from the fair, stated that the demand for his and other cauliflower grown here, was growing daily, and that it was found difficult to meet the demands. de-mands. Yesterday the eleventh carload car-load of cauliflower was loaded and shipped out over the Denver & Rio Grande. Next season, it was pro-dici'ed pro-dici'ed by Mr. Kimura, it is believed that fully fifty carloads will be sent from the gardens of the valley. Not alone will the Japanese gardeners plant large acreages, but others are planning to experiment in growing cauliflower and it; is confidently believed be-lieved that within a few years Gunnison Gun-nison Valley will lead the nation in the production of a superior quj1:ty of the popular foodstuff. |
