Show Rail Officials Have Boost for Valley Getting acquainted with Gunnison and the Gunnison Valley, seeing the thrift through the activities of the farmers in completing one of the biggest big-gest and best beet crops ever grown here, inspecting the big sugar factory fac-tory in motion and grinding out --r-usands of sacks of sugar, making an inspection of the feeding industry that has been inaugurated here and rejoicing in the smiles that the residents resi-dents of the valley are wearing, were some of the pleasures expressed by S. L. Racey, division supeerintendent, and I. C. Crawford, division engineer, ; for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Rail-road company, just prior to their departure de-parture for the south Tuesday afternoon. after-noon. Messrs. Racey and Crawford admitted they had heard a great deal of the valley and to convince themselves them-selves they stopped over and were taken for a short trip through town and other points of interest by Ira Overfelt, local agent for the company. "We were most agreeably surprised," surpris-ed," said Mr. Racey, "and I want to tell you, that you folks in the great big valley are showing some; thrift. You factory, your feeding industry and the general; conditions are decidedly deci-dedly pleasing and there is nothing e'se but success for you air if the pace is kept up. True, conditions have been bad during the past few years and for this reason many of the agricul-. agricul-. tural sections have been hit hard. ; . Your valley, however, is coming- out of the kinks faster than many of the others and the years to follow certainly cer-tainly has a rosy hue. Its a fine place" tot visit and you can rest assured that we are going to visit you again and we ae going to keep an eye on prop-ressive Gunnison Valley." While here Mr. Crawford announc-. announc-. ed that his company is to spend some $9,000,000 on improving the system in Utah and Colorado. Among the local improvements will be the laying .of, about 35 miles of 85-pound rail south of" Manti, and the continuation of work on the Salina canyon branch to the coal mines. |
