In the absence of the grandparents, ' Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Pickett, the two lads secured some matches and went to the corral and built a fi.e. The, blaze had gained a go. id headway wh n it was discovered and an alarm ; brought many of the neighbors and; business men to the scene of the cmi-j tlagration. All effort was centralized j on saving three large stacks of alfalf hay which was in close proximity to the fi.e and it was only through thej concentrated efforts of the firefight-l rs that this was saved. A favorable! i wind, prevented a spread of the fire. The blaze was ea'ing its way through j a large stack of hay but a bucket! brigade soon had the fire under con-1 trol. j Mr. Pickett is very grateful to all i who aided in getting the flames under control and were it not for the ready and quick response made by thej neighbors and citizens his loss would! have been heavy. i |
