Show Local Breeders to Supply California Salt Lake City and Utah will be the central point of operations for the Central U. S. Swine company, according accord-ing to Addis Kelley, secretary-treasurer for the company. Main offices which have been maintained and operated in other western and northwestern north-western sections, will be removed to Utah's capital and the major business will be done at Salt Lake. Mr. Kelley Kel-ley was here Tuesday, having just returned re-turned from a brief inspection trip into Sevier county, where the company is organizing a strong breeders association. as-sociation. Mr. Kelley was in Gunnison last Saturday evening, meeting with some twenty-five of the breeders of the Chester White hogs. A big demand is being made for the Chester White hogs in the Imperial Valley, Southern California, and arrangements are being be-ing made to supply a car or two from this section. The hogs will be shipped ship-ped out about the middle of March. Not alone will the breeding of the Chester Whites be started in the Imperial Im-perial Valley but other California points are to be stocked. While on his trip Mr. Kelley was boosting the Intermountcin Livestock show which is to be held at Salt Lake March 27 to 31. He urged every breeder of cattle, sheep and hogs to aid in the exhibit arid if possible to have their stock there. The show, he said, was to be a big feature and that many breeders throughout the state -were planning to have their fancy stock on exhibition. Heretofore breederse have been backward, Mr. Kelley said, in cooperating in the livestock shows and as a result the industry of breeding more and better stock has not progressed in Utah as it should. Not only this, but the breeders must expand for the simple reason that Utah does not raise sufficient suf-ficient pork to supply the local demands, de-mands, and the decline in swine pi-o-ducttion is proving expensive. The swine industry, which was given a good start in Gunnison Valley some two years ago, is proving a boon to the breeders and the production, which has been exceptionally good, is aiding in lifting he "mortgage" and supplying a nice income for the breeders. Before returning to his home at Salt Lake Mr., Kelley expressed himself him-self with being highly pleased with the cooperation of the breeders, as well as results being obtained by the farmers who are breeding the high class stock. |
