Show NAVY DEPARTMENT WANTS MEN FOR BATTLESHIPS The U. S. navy department has announced that 30,000 trained navy men will receive their honorable discharges dis-charges this summer as their four year enlistments expire. Congressional Congres-sional appropriations for 1926-1927 are to be made immediately available avail-able in order that recruits may be trained at once to fill the expected vacancies. There being only 82,000 men in the navy, active training is to be inaugurated as men are accepted ac-cepted in order that the fleet efficiency effi-ciency may not be impaired when more than one-third of the navy's trained men are returned to civil occupation. oc-cupation. Re-enlistments from the 30,000 are expected to be heavy 'according to naval officials, who state that the navy has been securing 80 per cent of tis discharged men. It was pointed point-ed out however that new men will" be enlisted without regard to re-enlistments as the fleet would be tied up did not re-enlistments occur as predicted. The navy department has cautioned caution-ed all of its stations that in spite of its need, the strict reference requirements require-ments and parents' written consent must be secured, because men taken in must be of the material which can he developed as specialists in a short time. In addition to a hundred selections selec-tions for training at the U. S. Naval Academy, regular quotas will go to the service schools or fleet details. The navy department plans on having hav-ing about 4,000 men in its service schools during the coming year. According to orders received at the navy recruiting station at Salt Lake City, that station will begin active recruiting at onca to secure as many voung men from Montana, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming as can qualify for the navy. It is the desire of the navy that every community have .equal opportunity oppor-tunity to send its young men to the fleet schools. To this end, the navy "ecruiting office is arranging to send lavy representatives to the locality when possible applicants are known by name.
