Show THE BEAR RIVER DELTA. Vast V renin nf ISullrufilirft Thrive in tlie rcrtllt- S. II. This week quite extensive fires have been raging in the great rush for' Bts that skirt Stilt Lake's shores iv-ar the mouth of Bear River, aim -st due w est of Brigham. Every fall lare fires brcsk out in that locality, probably started by hunters, sometimes lasting for weeks, leveling to the ground many acres of the tall, dry bull-rushes. bull-rushes. These rushes spread over vast tracts of the fertile land that borders bor-ders Bear Ri ver Bay. in many pi act 8 uttaining extraordinary heights. A man on horseback is completely lost to sight, being several feet below their towering tops. It seems that Bear River at its mouth separates into scores of smaller streams, which spread over a large tract, forming an interesting inter-esting delta. The water is consequently conse-quently very shallow. All the dregs and rich soil the still, deep stream has rolled for a hundred miles ot. more along its dark, muddy depths are deposited on the bars and shoals at this point, making them rich and productive. |
